Let’s Get Dinner – Bee’s Steak & Seafood

Whether it maybe a date night, or your out taking a stroll through the East lake park you can have the convenience of having an elegant and intimate dining experience at Bee’s Steak and Seafood.

Going to the park is one of my favorite things to do. My favorite park in Wuhan is the East Lake park. Even though I have to take a taxi to get there I am always willing to make the journey to get there. At one of the several entrances to the park there are various restaurants and convenience stores. Along that strip is the one of the locations for Bee’s Steak and Seafood. Generally, I get to the park hop on a bike and ride around to sight-see, or I pop into the Maan Coffee for brunch then head out to find a bike. I usually get to the park early or there was some Covid restrictions and Bee’s was never open.

I really began to get curious about the food there after noticing the restaurant so I made the effort to but it on my list of priorities to visit. My first attempt to visit didn’t come to fruition. Being the person I can be at times I got ready too late and it was almost time for closing, so I had to scrap those plans. This has happened too often for me. Renee you need to improve on your timing this year (mental note to self).

Nonetheless, on a random day out when the weather was great and the sun was doing its best job, I headed to the park and as life would have it it was just the perfect time yo grab lunch and Bee’s was open. We entered and got seated. Its such a minimal and elegant restaurant. They have a nice wine selection available for viewing and the kitchen also offers an open concept that allows you to see glimpses of what the chef is up to while preparing your meal.

Pumpkin Soup with Vanilla Cream
Oxtail soup

As it was lunch time I opted to not select from their brunch menu. Even though they offer all day brunch, I was in the mood for something with more of a lunch/early dinner vibe. I began with the Pumpkin Soup with Vanilla Cream. This was divine, it was the most delectable pumpkin soup I’d ever had while being in China. It was smooth, light and perfectly flavored. The vanilla cream provided the perfect balance to the sweet and tart flavors of the pumpkin. My second time visiting Bee’s I decided to try the Oxtail soup. I concluded the pumpkin soup was the star of the show. Not to say the Oxtail soup was bad but I preferred the pumpkin soup. In my opinion the Oxtail Soup was a little too tart for my liking. Maybe its the Jamaican in me and how I am used to having oxtail. I assume my brain was not expecting a tart taste.

Seafood Fettuccine
BBQ Pork Ribs

Our main course consisted of Seafood Fettuccine and the BBQ Pork Ribs with veggies. I was blown away by the Seafood Fettuccine, the flavor was 10/10. It had mussels, calamari, shrimp and scallops, seasoned to perfection and the portions was more than enough to also share. The ribs were tender and fell right off the bone, they came with additional seasoning but in my opinion it wasn’t a necessity but it did add a kick in spice if you are a spice lover. Second time around I ordered the Classic Carbonara. For my creamy pasta lovers this is the one. A simple dish with light flavor, not overly creamy and a great balance of seasoning.

They also offer great cocktails and have an in house mixologist. During my lunch there we didn’t want alcohol, so we opted mocktails. The mocktails can be made to your taste. When we were ordering they asked us what flavors we liked or would prefer to enjoy and then they centered the cocktails around our specifications. I love a nicely balanced sweet and tangy cocktail and that exactly what I got. Growing up in Jamaica we had a massive lime tree in the backyard, and Ive always been a fan of lime flavors. The mocktail delivered on the lime flavor while transporting me to memories of my childhood at home picking limes in the backyard. I loved it.

For sure I will be returning to Bee’s to explore more of the seafood options on the menu and also the wine selection. But until then let’s see where to next.
